Permaculture is a holistic design science and open source technology for building sustainable communities. Preparedness is a state of mind and lifestyle that improves quality of life now, while increasing individual/family/community self-reliance when disruption to normalcy occurs. By combining permaculture and preparedness we're able to grow beyond the finite duration of self-reliance and mature to an infinite state of community sufficiency.
The Institute of Urban Ecology is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating, inspiring, and coordinating people to come together around nature and food. We are working to create a community of dedicated and motivated individuals to make positive significant changes to our {sub}urban environments by putting ecology into action through gardening, urban farming, sustainable design, permaculture and community building.

Join us for a unique opportunity to learn about cob in an urban setting. During these meetings, participants will build a cob oven and cob seating area in the backyard of our hosts' private residence. Oven construction, basic cob mixing and building techniques, niches and sculptural elements will be taught. Theory topics include foundations, roofing, and the logistics of acquiring project materials in the city. Participants will have enough knowledge to take on their own backyard project.
